According to The Wall Street Journal, the news came from two unnamed sources of the company who are associated with the project. The Pokémon Company is believed to be working on a "new card-game" app after the overwhelming response it received from "Pokémon Go." There is a firm believe this particular type of games is going to be the future of smartphone games.
Though there is some confusion around this game, as at the present there is already an existing app dedicated to the "Pokémon" Trading Card Game. Also, apart from "Pokémon Go," there are already existing iterations on the IP from other apps and games, so it's hard to imagine how the company is planning to succeed with the "new card-game" app.
According to Nintendo Life, during this news from the "Pokémon" Company, Tatsumi Kimishima, the President and Representative Director of Nintendo has recently confirmed at an investors' meeting that the company is involved in creating more mobile titles in future. The company has already released games like "Fire Emblem Heroes", "Super Mario" Run, and "Miitomo". The "Fire Emblem Heroes" gathered huge revenue, whereas the "Super Mario" Run has seen a record number of downloads.
The statistics make us believe Nintendo may be willing to rely on free-to-play gameplay versions in the future. The leaked news about this "Pokémon"; new card-game app came along with the news of Nintendo working on a smartphone game, based on The Legend of Zelda. There is no denying that the success of "Pokémon Go" will definitely make the company push for more similar titles. The said game witnessed an astonishing 500 million downloads till date and arguably the most popular smartphone game. Though the company is yet to confirm on any leaked news, there is enough reason to believe the sources.
